Protest over defacto-udvisning af dansk journalist fra Pakistan

Oprettelsesdato 20. maj 2010

Danske Dagblades Forening har sendt et brev til den pakistanske ambassadør i Danmark i protest over, at Pakistan ikke vil forny visummet til JP's korrespondent Puk Damsgård Andersen. Læs brevet nedenfor.

Her Excellency Ms Fauzia Mufti Abbas, Ambassador
Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
Valeursvej 17
2900 Hellerup

20 May 2010

Your Excellency Ms Fauzia Mufti Abbas,

Letter of protest

The Danish Newspaper Publishers’ Association notes with astonishment and indignation that the Pakistani authorities have refused to renew the Danish journalist, Ms Puk Damsgård Andersen’s visa apparently on the ground that Ms Damsgård Andersen is a potential target for acts of terrorism and that the Pakistani authorities are not in a position to protect Ms Damsgård Andersen.

The Danish Newspaper Publishers’ Association finds it totally unacceptable that a highly respected foreign journalist is – in reality – banished from Pakistan without any formal charge.

The Association further notes that such an act is not in accordance with the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in particular article 19. It is of utmost importance that media professionals are given the best possible working conditions, which of course includes access to and free movement within a foreign territory.

In expectation of the rectification of the above matter we remain

Yours Sincerely
The Danish Newspaper Publishers’ Association
